A Winter Wonderland
The banner overhead displayed, “Welcome to the Ski and
Board Festival” as I trotted up to the entrance point to the venue. The Ski and
Board Festival is a three day event at Sacramento's Cal Expo facility hosting
roughly 75 vendors and six sponsors this year. Most people attend the festival
for the great deals on gear, what's new and to simply enjoy the atmosphere with
a wide range of skiers and boarders. This was my first time experiencing the
event and I was fortunate to attend the last day. The sights and sounds engulf
you as you enter a valley of exhibitors playing their selected tracks to listen
to on their favorite descent. It is not uncommon to see such displays at the
event like a 20” indoor half-pipe show, tasty beer garden, a liquidation outlet
of gear, and my favorite of go-go dancers in non-winter fatigue. The vibe is a
positive one and impressive.
As you walk through the lobby, you will see the
massive beer garden situated across from the half-pipe. The BMX and skateboard
show was sensational as professional riders & boarders displayed their
perfected techniques of backflips, 360 inverts, and effortless flatland tricks.
It was an electric scene and the crowd motivated the pros to push their limits.
Most people I met there were local, and even participated in our raffle to give
away a 2012 Jeep Sahara and the showcasing of a new 2013 Crosstrek. I met two
snowboarders from Oroville that told me this is the only event that they will
attend all year at Cal Expo. Of course, many also come for the awesome lift
passes & swag that are dished out like hot cakes. The exhibitors brought
their best to show. There was even a company which made its skis and boards
completely out of recycled bamboo which was unique. If you’re looking for some
good entertainment, the Ski and Snowboard Festival is worth the trip.
The Ski and Snowboard Festival was one of the best
events I’ve seen all year with a strong sense of passion, fun, and culture. All
in all, you will meet and see a strong following that resonates through all
ages. Good people, good deals, good beer, & great times. If you want an
event to circle next year on your calendar, the Ski and Snowboard Festival is
the one to not miss!

The ActionCamper for Jeep Wrangler (Unlimited)!
Along the top of the fiberglass shell of the camper, there is a soft top which actually is collapsible like an accordion to the body of the RV (waterproof even when extended & is removable!) This is where the magic happens because ActionCamper has specifically designed the sleeping quarters to be more spacious & futuristic by adjusting the dimensions to fit not one but two people, even comfortably in king-size, roll-out bed. It has awesome cubbies (yes, like from grade school) & lockable compartments throughout the entire layout! The RV shell, modulo removing factory rear doors, seats & roll bars only adds an additional 440 pounds to the Wrangler's curb weight! So it can still go the distance without constantly taking a drink.
ActionCamper is Chuck Norris's winnebagos of the future. It's got a special forces like feel to it coupled with an interior that looks like a section designed for the Ikea minimalist in all of us. Extra points awarded on the choice of maple wood finish, a nice-calm Canadian feel to it. Complete with the essentials of refrigerator, stove, toilet, sink, & lots of storage! Yes, there's more...4 gallon fresh-water tank storage as well as a black-water (nasty stuff) tank which can hold a post thanksgiving dinner for two. An extendable nozzle is functional for showering or washing plates.
So much room that a 6-foot & 3-inch person couldn't complain! Amazingly, the price tag for the shell (sorry no Jeep included) is just a little north than 50K ($53,500 to be exact for the accountant) & for most RV's that are not used, that's borderline "GTFOH?!" All in all, the ActionCamper has redefined how adaptive RVing has/will become, especially for the eminent zombie apocalypse around the corner! Happy mudding!

XJ Jeep Cherokee Attempts to Jump US & Mexico Border
A very creative, engineering
attempt took place a few days ago on the US & Mexican border. This XJ Jeep
Cherokee was found deserted by Border Patrol in an attempt to drive over a
border fence. Clearly, this is not a story of success to many Jeepers who push
their Jeep’s limitations. However, it is an even sadder story for this Jeep
itself which will now sit ownerless, waiting to be driven to great heights from
its’ present location of a government auction lot.
